Upfront: OPE beefs up online presence

By Steve Noe

Celebrating our 50-year anniversary in 2009, Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE) has proudly served the industry, for which it was named, longer than any other trade magazine. Published monthly, OPE is also the outdoor power equipment industry’s most frequently published trade magazine. In case you haven’t noticed, we have been hard at work to bring you the latest news about the OPE industry even more often, in more ways, shapes and forms than ever through our extended online presence.

Web site

Nearly one year ago, we completely re-launched our Web site at www.outdoorpowerequipment.com to enhance our ability to bring you the latest and greatest information about the OPE industry in a more timely fashion. The moment we receive breaking news, we normally drop whatever we’re doing and post it, so that we keep you constantly informed of the latest happenings.

Across the top of the home page, you will notice options to click on the Web sites affiliated with each of OPE’s sister publications — SportsTurf, Arbor Age and Landscape and Irrigation — as well as “Green Media,” which incorporates the content of all four publications’ Web sites. By clicking on any of those five Web sites, you gain a much broader perspective on the entire green industry. Also at the top of OPE’s Web site, we have an “Industry Jobs” section, where you can post or find jobs.

If you scroll down the left side of OPE’s home page, you will notice four main sections — “News and Features,” “Resources,” “Interactive,” and “Contacts” — with several subsections. I will highlight just a couple of the many subsections below.

Digital issues

Under the “News and Features” section, you will notice that we not only have an “Articles and Archives” subsection, which features the editorial content of the magazine, but also a “Digital Archives” section, where you can go to receive a digital subscription to OPE.

The digital issues are page-for-page replicas of the print editions. You can read the content instantly. There’s no downloading required and no PDFs. When you view the digital issue, you will feel as if you are literally flipping through and reading the print edition, page by page, on your computer screen. When you click on a right-hand page, you see and hear the page curl to the next page as if an invisible hand was doing all of the work. It’s pretty cool!

E-newsletters

In September 2008, we launched an e-mail newsletter called OPExtra, which is sent every other Wednesday. In other words, between OPE and our biweekly e-newsletters, you now hear from us at least three times per month and a whopping 38 times per year.

To receive a free subscription to “OPExtra,” simply go to the “Interactive” section, click on “E-newsletters,” and complete the necessary information.

We are very proud of our new online products — especially the Web site, e-newsletter and digital edition of the magazine — and hope you enjoy them as well. With spring now in full swing, I realize that you’re extremely busy. However, if you can spare a few minutes to visit our Web site at www.outdoorpowerequipment.com and drop me an e-mail with your thoughts at snoe@m2media360.com, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback so we can continue to best serve you.
