Stihl Inc. has hired Tom Scott as the new director of information services. Scott will be responsible for all U.S. activities related to Information Technology (IT) — including business applications, system architecture and communication infrastructure support — for Stihl Inc., as well as its branches, distributors and servicing dealers.

Scott brings more than 30 years of IT leadership to Stihl, most recently serving as the interim chief information officer for Dollar Tree Stores in Chesapeake, Va. Beyond IT, Scott has overseen distribution, customer service and human resources. As chief operating officer and chief information officer for Coldwater Creek, he helped transform the catalog-only business by launching Internet and retail channels. During his more than 30-year career, he has also been responsible for the construction or management of seven distribution centers and eight call centers.

“Scott brings a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of information systems, from information technology to distribution to call centers,” said Bjoern Fischer, president of Stihl Inc. “His experience contributes to delivering excellent service for Stihl customers, which is the core of our business.”

“I’m excited to join a company that focuses as much on its customers as its products,” said Scott. “I look forward to delivering first-rate, efficient service to Stihl employees, branch distributors, dealers and customers.”

Scott holds a Master of Science in Industrial Administration (MSIA) degree from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Brigham Young University.
